Publication Abstract

Anisopus mannii have been used by traditionalist and herbalist in Maiduguri, Northern Nigeria in managing conditions such as fever, cough, diabetes mellitus, aphrodisiac as well as an anti-bacterial agent. The study was therefore designed to investigate the toxicity index, phytochemical content and antidiabetic activity of the crude stem extract of this plant on wistar strain albino rats. The plant was found to contain carbohydrates, alkaloids, flavonoids, saponins, cardiac glycosides and terpenes / steroids. When graded dosages of 200, 400, 600 and 800 mg / Kg of the aqueous stem extract was administered to the experimental albino rats it exhibited significant (P
